West Hollywood : 40 Bicycle Racks Planned
- Share via
It may not seem like much, but to West Hollywood bicycle enthusiasts, a plan to put 40 new bicycle racks along busy Santa Monica Boulevard is welcome news.
The city is to install the racks, called “meter mounts” because they attach to parking meters, this week. The Transportation Commission hopes they will help alleviate parking problems along the congested boulevard.
“For every bike trip taken, there’s one less car on the road and one more parking space in the city,” said Sibyl Zaden, chairwoman of the commission’s Bicycle Advisory Committee.
The committee meets once a month with the aim of making city streets a friendlier place for bicyclists. Its half-dozen members report potholes deemed especially hazardous to bicyclists to the Public Works Department. Acting on their suggestion, the city soon plans to establish bike lanes along Fountain Avenue and San Vicente Boulevard, Zaden said.
