The USC women’s basketball team will play its first Pacific 10 Conference game of the season against Stanford at 7:30 tonight at Loyola Marymount without star center Cherie Nelson.
Nelson, the nation’s third-leading scorer with an average of 27.8 points a game, was suspended for disciplinary reasons by Coach Linda Sharp Thursday.
“We will start conference play without Cherie,” Sharp said . “Her future return to the team will be determined at a later date.”
USC (4-5) is coming off a 81-67 loss to eighth-ranked Maryland last Friday.
The only losses this season for the ninth-ranked Cardinal (8-2) have been to No. 1 Tennessee and No. 19 North Carolina on the road.
