Reed Larson, Pat LaFontaine and Randy Wood scored during a 75-second span in the 5-goal second period, rallying the New York Islanders to a 5-3 victory over the Boston Bruins Thursday night at Boston.

The Bruins jumped to a 2-0 lead on first-period goals by Ken Linseman and Cam Neely and appeared to be in command until the Islanders took over in the last 15 minutes of the second period, outshooting Boston, 15-0.

Larson beat goaltender Reggie Lemelin on a power play at 8:59. LaFontaine tied the score at 9:58 with his 20th goal. Just 16 seconds later, Wood beat Lemelin to put the Islanders ahead, 3-2.

David Wolek made it 4-2 at 17:05, and Brent Sutter extended the lead at 19:43. Garry Galley scored for Boston at 12:56.

Minnesota 5, Philadelphia 3--Mark Habscheid scored on a power play with 4:46 left, and the North Stars turned back the Flyers at Bloomington, Minn.

Philadelphia had won 10 of its last 11 games, all with Ron Hextall in goal. But Hextall couldn’t handle two long and relatively weak shots in the third period--one by Mark Tinordi to tie the score, 3-3, and the other by Habscheid.

Stewart Gavin had an empty-net goal for the North Stars.

Dave Poulin scored twice in the first period for Philadelphia, sandwiching power-play goals by Minnesota’s Dave Gagner and Brian MacLellan. Pelle Eklund’s breakaway goal gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead in the second period.
