Painter Troy Poole was spraying a lacquer finish on cabinets, Huntington Beach Fire Department dispatcher Brenda Crites said. Poole suffered first- and second-degree burns on his face and hands and was treated at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, she said.

The blaze, which caused $185,000 in damage to the house and its contents, was being investigated, Crites said.

Huntington Beach firefighter Ren Hunn, 34, was treated at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach for smoke inhalation and a back injury, she said.

The fire also caused about $1,400 in damage to the roof of a house at 21191 Amberwick, Crites said.
