A robber who demanded, “Give me thousands!” fired a shot over the head of a startled teller Wednesday afternoon and escaped with more than $1,000 from the Bank of America branch at 3101 University Ave.

Police were searching for a white male in his early 30s, reported to be about 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 185 to 200 pounds. He was said to have brownish-blond, collar-length hair and a bushy mustache.

After parking his car in front of the bank, he walked in through the University Avenue entrance, carrying a shotgun. Bank officials said he escaped through the front door and took off in a gray Nissan sports car, with California license plate 1PPL683.
