A robber who demanded, “Give me thousands!” fired a shot over the head of a startled teller Wednesday afternoon and escaped with more than $1,000 from the Bank of America branch at 3101 University Ave.

Police were searching for a white male in his early 30s, reported to be about 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 185 to 200 pounds. He was said to have brownish-blond, collar-length hair and a bushy mustache.

After parking his car in front of the bank, he walked in through the University Avenue entrance, carrying a shotgun. Bank officials said he escaped through the front door and took off in a gray Nissan sports car, with California license plate 1PPL683.

He was last seen eastbound on University Avenue, police said. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call the FBI or the police robbery unit at 531-2299.
