A fire in a three-story rooming house in Yonkers, N.Y., killed seven people and injured at least eight others, including five firefighters, authorities said. A woman was in guarded condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital, a nursing supervisor said. Two badly burned bodies were found just behind the front door, Fire Commissioner William McLaughlin said, adding that the door opened outward and officials were uncertain why the two could not escape. Investigators were seeking the cause of the blaze.
