Man Found Shot on Freeway Divider; Roadway Closure Snarls L.A. Traffic

Share

A critically injured man with massive head injuries was found on a Santa Ana freeway center divider in Boyle Heights on Sunday. The road was closed for nearly an hour as officers searched for clues.

Traffic was backed up for several miles through East Los Angeles and the Civic Center as officers combed the Freeway near the 7th Street exit for evidence. Heavy traffic on the nearby Harbor Freeway further snarled traffic at the downtown interchange.

When the man was found next to the freeway’s southbound lanes at 9 a.m., it was initially thought he had jumped from a bridge above, Los Angeles police said.

But the freeway was ordered closed at 1 p.m. when it was discovered that the unidentified man also had a bullet wound in his left arm, police said.

The 50-year-old man was in critical condition at County-USC Medical Center. His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
