Frankie Warren defeated Micky Ward to retain his U.S. Boxing Assn. junior welterweight title with a 12-round unanimous decision at Atlantic City.
Warren backed Ward up and landed body shots to negate Ward’s advantage in power. Despite landing sharp left crosses to the head and body, Ward wasn’t active enough, according to the judges.
Warren, who weighed in at 138 1/4, is 29-1 with 19 knockouts. Ward, who weighed 138 1/2, is 19-3 with 13 knockouts.
