In Brief : Tigers Sign Reliever Frank Williams
The Detroit Tigers signed free agent right-handed relief pitcher Frank Williams to a contract today.
Williams, who will be 31 on Feb. 13, pitched the last two seasons for the Cincinnati Reds. In 60 games last year, Williams was 3-2 with a 2.39 earned-run average and one save.
Tigers general manager Bill Lajoie said he considers Williams a solid middle reliever. Williams was 7-2 in his two seasons with the Reds. Originally signed by the San Francicso Giants, Williams will begin the 1989 season with a career major league record of 21-11.
