The State : Jets Aid Hunt for Two Girls
Two Air National Guard reconnaissance jets from Reno, Nev., swooped over the Hayward Hills in an effort to find two missing girls. The FBI said the jets were equipped with the latest in photo equipment that could disclose whether there was any kind of surface change to indicate digging in recent months. The objects of the search were 9-year-old Michaela Garecht and 8-year-old Amber Swartz-Garcia. Michaela was kidnaped from a Hayward supermarket on Nov. 19, and Amber disappeared from the front yard of her Pinole home on June 3. The photos taken by the jets will be compared with others previously taken by an East Bay commercial aerial photography firm.
