A Van Nuys man was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday for fatally shooting his brother after an argument.

Crispin Ahumada Hernandez, 38, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the Dec. 15 shooting of Pedro Hernandez, 30, in their Woodman Avenue apartment.

The brothers, who lived in the apartment with three other men, had been arguing, police said. Hernandez shot his brother in the upper body with a .38-caliber revolver.

Just after the shooting, Hernandez admitted to his three roommates that he had killed his brother, police said. Hernandez said his brother had asked to be shot, the roommates told investigators. Police said they found no sign of a struggle.

Hernandez, a part-time janitor, was originally charged with murder. But he pleaded guilty to the lesser offense after he and prosecutors agreed to a plea bargain.
