UCSD Women Win in Overtime

Freshman Carri Young scored 23 points to lead UC San Diego (10-4) to an 80-77 overtime victory at Amherst (Mass.) in women’s basketball Thursday.

The game was tied, 71-71, at the end of regulation. Traci Ragatz hit a 3-pointer at the beginning of overtime, and the Tritons never trailed.

Other scorers for UCSD included Beth Koenig (18), Jill Koster (14) and Ragatz (12). Amherst (9-2) was led by Stephanie Murphy with 24 points.

Point Loma Nazarene was behind, 23-21, at halftime but came back in the second half to defeat The Masters College, 54-48.

Point Loma Nazarene (11-7) took a 48-47 lead with a minute left on a foul shot by Camille Armijo, then hit 7 of 8 free-throw attempts and allowed only one point by The Masters (7-8). Point Loma Nazarene shot 82% from the line. Armijo scored 19 points and Shawndel Reddic 10.
