Share

The second of two men sought in the fatal shooting of a Pacoima resident was arrested Saturday, police said.

Antonio Zarate, 32, was shot during an argument in the 13700 block of Amboy Avenue in Pacoima, said Lt. George Rock of the Los Angeles Police Department. The subject of the argument was not known, Rock said. Zarate died at the scene, he said.

Edward Martinez Rodriguez, 32, was arrested on suspicion of murder at his home at 2:45 p.m. Saturday without incident. The second suspect, Gilbert Durazo, 39, had been arrested on the same charge immediately after Zarate was shot, Rock said. Durazo was unable to flee because one of the bullets that police suspect were fired by Rodriguez hit Durazo in the left calf, Rock said.

Although police believe Rodriguez committed the shooting, they arrested Durazo on suspicion of murder because under state law accomplices to murder are equally culpable, Rock said.
