Sunday’s close Super Bowl proved super in the preliminary major-city ratings for NBC, whose telecast of the game averaged a 42.7 rating and 65% share of the audience in 17 cities. In Los Angeles, the Bengals-49er matchup averaged a 42.4 rating and a 72% share of the audience, according to Nielsen estimates provided Monday by NBC. National ratings for the telecast are due today.
