Local News in Brief : Motorcycle Accident Victim Identified

Amotorcyclist who died after he hit the back of a pickup truck on the Golden State Freeway in Arleta was identified Monday as a Northridge man.

Jack Wayne McMurphy, 34, was driving north on the Golden State Freeway near the Sheldon Street exit early Sunday at speeds of 85 m.p.h. to 90 m.p.h., said Officer Bob Weaver of the California Highway Patrol.

McMurphy’s motorcycle struck a pickup, throwing him onto the freeway, authorities said. At least one car drove away after running over McMurphy, who died at the scene, authorities said.

The pickup truck driver, Joseph Phipps, 26, of Canyon Country, was not injured, Weaver said.
