A Glendale man who got out of his car on the Ventura Freeway after an accident was struck by two passing cars and killed early Sunday, authorities said.

The 25-year-old man was driving in the right lane of the westbound Ventura Freeway near Harvey Drive in Glendale shortly after midnight, California Highway Patrol Officer Dwight McDonald said. His car rear-ended an auto driven by Arlene Suaez, 48, of Glendale, and both cars stopped in the lane, McDonald said.

The man got out of his car, saw another auto approaching, and ran behind his car, but he was struck by a car driven by John Strolsee, 21, authorities said. He was thrown into another lane and hit by a second car, driven by Paul Benlian, 23, police said.

The man, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene, McDonald said.

Passengers in the victim’s car and in Suaez’s car suffered minor injuries, McDonald said. Strolsee and Benlian, both of Glendale, were not injured and probably will not be charged, he said.
