Thousands of South Korean workers and students battled riot police in downtown Seoul, demanding the expulsion of American troops and the overthrow of President Roh Tae Woo’s government. The protesters hurled hundreds of firebombs and rocks as they clashed with about 1,000 police, who countered with tear-gas grenades and pepper gas.
