Hector Lopez, Ruben Castillo in Separate Bouts Tonight
Hector Lopez, Derrick Kelly and Ruben Castillo headline tonight’s boxing show at the Forum.
Lopez (17-1), the No. 1-ranked (World Boxing Council) featherweight in the world from Glendale, meets Rogelio Lopez (16-6) from Dallas.
Lopez, who won the Forum’s featherweight tournament title last year, hasn’t fought since last spring, after being arrested and jailed on a kidnap charge involving his girlfriend.
Kelly (21-1-2), from Los Angeles, boxes Luis Santana (38-7) of Las Vegas, who will defend his North American Boxing Federation welterweight championship for the fourth time. The two met 14 months ago at the Forum, Kelly winning a 10-round decision.
Castillo, normally behind the microphone with Chick Hearn at Forum boxing shows as a Prime Ticket commentator, is launching a comeback at age 31. In a 10-round lightweight bout, he meets Santos Moreno (45-15) of Juarez, Mexico.
Castillo was 66-6 when he retired in 1985. He fought four times in world title bouts, but never won.
