More than two dozen peace protesters were arrested at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station when they tried to disrupt a top-secret military convention. Two were arrested by military police on the base and 23 others were taken into custody by Orange County Sheriff’s Department deputies for allegedly blocking the road outside the main gate. The protest is staged annually by the Alliance for Survival against the Winter Convention of Aerospace and Electronic Systems, a meeting of military and defense industry experts on new developments in weapons and military technology. About 75 protesters attempted to block buses carrying delegates, but failed when the buses were routed through a back gate.
