San Diego natives Scott Simpson and Craig Stadler have entered the 1989 Shearson Lehman Hutton Open Feb. 14-19 at Torrey Pines.

Simpson, the 1987 U.S. Open Champion and a graduate of Madison High School, had his most productive year on the PGA Tour in 1987, earning $621,032.

Stadler, a Rancho Santa Fe resident and La Jolla High graduate, has earned more $2 million in his 14 years on the tour and won eight tournaments.

Other players with local ties who have committed to play include Mark O’Meara, Lennie Clements and Mark Wiebe.

A free golf clinic by Gary Glaser, the Carmel Mountain Ranch pro, will be Saturday at 1, 2:30 and 3:15 p.m. Glaser will hold a clinic and offer swing analysis.

HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL

Rafid Kiti, the fifth-leading scorer in the San Diego Section, suffered a collapsed lung at school Monday and will be out indefinitely.

Kiti, who is averaging 24.3 points per game for sixth-ranked Valhalla, had a tube inserted in his lung, Coach Manny Silva said.

The tube may be removed as early as Friday morning.
