Big West Roundup : Conway Scores 22, Leads Utah State Past Long Beach

Danny Conway scored 22 points to lead Utah State past Cal State Long Beach, 82-69, in a Big West Conference game Thursday night at Logan, Utah.

A basket by Tyrone Mitchell gave the 49ers (8-11, 5-5) a 52-50 lead with 10:13 remaining, but the Aggies (8-12, 6-5) went on a 15-5 run to make it 67-57 with 3:01 left. Greg Houskeeper had 9 of his 11 points during the run.

Long Beach had an 8-2 spurt to take a 30-27 lead with 4:14 left in the first half, but Utah State finished with a 10-2 run for a 36-31 halftime lead.

Reid Newey and Kendall Youngblood scored 12 points each for Utah State. Rudy Harvey and Brian Jones had 13 points each for Long Beach, and Rolf Jacobs added 11 points and 10 rebounds.

New Mexico State 77, San Jose State 60--Jimmy Taylor scored 20 points as the Aggies defeated the Spartans at San Jose.

Taylor, who hit six 3-pointers, scored 17 points in the second half to lead New Mexico State (14-6, 7-3) to its fifth consecutive conference victory.

Johnny Roberson added 19 points, James Anderson scored 15 and Keith Hill had 14 for the Aggies.

Dwain Daniels scored 18 points for San Jose, which trailed, 39-30, at halftime, as the Spartans (5-14, 1-9) dropped their eighth consecutive game.

Craig McPherson added 17 points and football star Johnny Johnson had 10 points and 9 rebounds for San Jose State.
