Arms Hypocrisy

Share

In the Jan. 29 edition, The Times printed two letters commending Randy Garrell for not selling AK-47s. What amazes me is, how can anyone commend a hypocrite? If he has such a guilty conscience, why not liquidate his entire inventory and go out of business? After all, all guns are intended to kill people or otherwise.

Shortly after the Stockton incident, an elected official by the name of Robert said that we don’t need military assault rifles, e.g., AK-47. Well, whoever said he needed a Corvette that does 140 m.p.h.? And while I’m on the subject of cars, how many drunk-driving fatalities do we have to have on our highways each year before we put a ban on automobiles and liquor? And another thing. How many people have to die of AIDS before we put a ban on sex? This idea of “we don’t need it” threatens our entire existence as American citizens.

The argument of gun control’s proponents epitomizes how spoiled we are as a country. Unlike every other First World nation, we have never been forced into fighting a foreign invader on our own soil. But one day, whenever that may be, we’ll have to deal with it. And I hope to God that we’re prepared for that day.

But, when the Russians come banging down your front door, hitting them on the head with a Louisville Slugger, another weapon capable of killing, just won’t cut it.
