Vince Dooley, who retired after 25 years as Georgia football coach a month ago amid speculation he would run for governor, said he will not seek the office and will remain at the university as athletic director.

Dooley undertook a heavy speaking schedule in last month, and that apparently dampened his enthusiasm for politics.

“It became more and more apparent as I went through a busy January schedule that to do something like this requires a commitment beyond 100%,” Dooley said. “You have to want to do it more than anything in your life, and I found myself shy in that respect.”
