Arcadia : Building Plan Advances
By a 5-0 vote Tuesday night, the City Council approved a negative declaration regarding the potential environmental impacts of a proposal to build a senior citizens center and recreation department offices.
Through the vote, the council took the position that the project, which will be located at the corner of Huntington Drive and Holly Avenue, will have no significant effect upon the environment. City staff acknowledged potential impacts on plant life, noise, traffic and seven other variables but concluded that the effects are avoidable or can be mitigated.
Some residents have complained that the project, located near Santa Anita Park off Huntington Drive, will create traffic problems. Others object to the project because it will mean the removal of a rose garden at the site.
