A motorcyclist was hospitalized after a hit-and-run accident at 3:30 p.m. Friday in La Habra, police said.

Henry Castro, 21, of La Habra was riding southbound on Euclid Street when he collided at the intersection of Lambert Road with a car whose driver had made a left turn in front of him, La Habra Police Sgt. Phil Stufflebean said. Information about the car’s driver was not released because he is a minor.

The driver fled the scene in a 1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo but was followed by a witness who confronted him when he stopped about a mile away, Stufflebean said. The unidentified witness was trying to persuade the driver to return to the scene when patrol cars passed by and recognized the suspect’s car by the license plate number, which had been provided by other witnesses, the sergeant said.

Castro was airlifted to UCI Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition late Friday. Castro, who was not wearing a helmet, had suffered multiple broken bones in his arms and legs and underwent surgery, Stufflebean said.

The driver was arrested and booked into La Habra City Jail on suspicion of right-of-way violation, fleeing the scene of an accident and driving without a license. He was released to the custody of his parents.
