Samuel Allison; Led Beverly Hills Church

The Rev. Dr. Samuel Robinson Allison, who nearly doubled the size of the congregation in his 19 years at Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, then Beverly Hills Community Presbyterian, died Feb. 1 at age 83.

He retired from the Beverly Hills church in 1967 and had since lived in Los Angeles.

When Allison arrived in California in 1948 from a Presbyterian church in Ben Avon, Pa., the Beverly Hills congregation stood at 863. When he left, it was 1,461.

Allison, a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, is survived by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, a son and seven grandchildren.
