Local News in Brief : 42 Men Arrested in Prostitution Sting
Forty-two men were arrested on suspicion of soliciting acts of prostitution from three undercover policewomen in the San Fernando Valley over the weekend, Los Angeles police said.
The sting operation was conducted Friday night at San Fernando Road and Astoria Street in Sylmar and Saturday night at San Fernando Road and Osborne Street in Pacoima, Sgt. William Thomas said. The operation was prompted by residents’ complaints about heavy prostitution traffic, he said.
“We feel we accomplished what we set out to do, to put a dent in the problem out there,” Thomas said.
Officers arrested 13 men Friday and 29 Saturday, Thomas said. Soliciting an act of prostitution is a misdemeanor.
Most of the suspects were released, but three were held for outstanding warrants, Thomas said.
