A Northridge house fire Monday that investigators said was caused by careless smoking killed a man and caused about $50,000 in damage, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.
Three fire companies responded to the blaze in the 9600 block of Ruffner Avenue about 5:15 p.m. and controlled the flames 11 minutes later, spokesman Greg Acevedo said.
