A hushed phone call from a woman held captive during an armed robbery at her San Dimas home led to the arrest of two suspects as they fled the residence with about $100,000 in cash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The arrest occurred Sunday about 9 p.m., after a 28-year-old woman, who was being held with her infant son, called 911 emergency line, sheriff’s spokesman said.

The woman phoned when one of the suspects, who had been left in charge of watching her, stepped away to confer with the two other men who had taken her husband to a room containing a safe. He had just learned that the woman’s 10-year-old son was sleeping in another room of the house, Mosley said.

She used the brief period when the suspect left the room to call the 911 number, he said.

“The woman just said, ‘There are armed robbers in the house, now,’ and hung up the phone,” Mosley said.

When calls are received on the emergency line, the phone location is registered automatically by computer, Mosley said.

The call went to the Sheriff’s Department Walnut substation about 8:50 p.m. Within about 10 minutes, officers were at the residence, Sgt. Phil Little said.

Two men, armed with a sawed-off rifle and a knife, ran out of the house not knowing the Sheriff’s Department had been notified, Sgt. Phil Little said. The third suspect who remained in the residence, saw the arrests taking place and escaped through the back door, he said. A sawed-off shotgun used by the suspect was found in the home, he said.

The Sheriff’s Department said the third suspect is still at large.

The name and address of the family were withheld because they requested anonymity, authorities said.

The husband is a 56-year-old prominent San Dimas businessman, authorities said. The residence, on Bowben Avenue, is in an upper-middle class neighborhood.

The arrested suspects are Junior Mungerson, 27, of Riverside, and Patrick Casiere, 23, of Huntington Beach, Little said. Bail for each was set at $16,000.

The suspect who is still at large was not identified.
