Loyola Women Hit Road, Hope for Chance at Crown

The Loyola Marymount University women’s basketball team will try to keep its slim title hopes alive when the Lions take their last road trip this weekend, starting tonight at Portland. They play Saturday at Gonzaga. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Lions are 15-9 overall and 7-3 in the West Coast Athletic Conference, two games behind co-leaders St. Mary’s and Gonzaga with four games to play. Portland is tied for fourth at 4-6.
Guard Lynn Flanagan leads Loyola at 11.3 points per game. Also in double figures are center Tricia Gibson (10.4), forward Regan O’Hara (10.2) and guard Kristen Bruich (10). O’Hara leads the rebounders at seven per game. Bruich ranks among WCAC leaders in assists (third at 5.5) and steals (second at 2.8).
Portland, 6-18 overall and 5-8 at home, has been led lately by freshman guard Martha Sheldon.
