KGIL Signs Two-Year Agreement to Broadcast CSUN Football Games

Radio station KGIL 1260-AM has signed an agreement with Cal State Northridge to broadcast Matador football games for the 1989 and 1990 seasons, Northridge Athletic Director Bob Hiegert announced Friday.

It will be the first time in 15 years that the Mission Hills-based station has covered Northridge athletics on a regular basis.

“We’ve tried on various occasions for the last seven or eight years to set up a contract but were unable to because of their programming or the cost of live broadcasts,” Hiegert said. “They expressed interest this time since we were upgrading the program and developing broader interest in the Valley.”

Under the agreement, Northridge will buy a 3 1/2-hour block of time for each of the 11 Saturdays that the Matadors play. The university will sell advertising and the station will provide promotional announcements during the week, Hiegert said.

Broadcaster Joe Buttitta, who is also a Northridge assistant athletic director, will do play by play.
