Two men have been arrested in the slaying of a Ramona man, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said Saturday.

Richard Devies Miller, 42, of Ramona and Thomas Gilbert Costa, 40, of Santa Ysabel were arrested at Miller’s home Friday in connection with the shooting death of Benjamin Gomez-Munoz, 29, said Lt. Bill Baxter of the homicide division.

According to authorities, Gomez-Munoz and three companions were riding in a vehicle near Miller’s home Friday, when Gomez-Munoz’s car caught fire. The three companions went to a nearby home to get buckets of water, while Gomez-Munoz stayed with the vehicle.

When the three companions returned to the car they found Gomez-Munoz suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

The three companions took Gomez-Munoz to a nearby health clinic, where he died before emergency personnel could take him to a hospital, sheriff’s deputies said.

An investigation by deputies and interviews with the victim’s companions led authorities to Miller’s home, 27067 Highway 78 East.
