CS Long Beach Women to Play UNLV

Cal State Long Beach’s women’s basketball team has a chance to clinch the Big West Conference title outright with a victory against Nevada Las Vegas tonight at 7:30 in the University Gym.

The 49ers have a 14-0 conference record, assuring them of at least a tie for the title with San Diego State. UNLV, ranked 16th nationally, is 10-4 in the league.

The 49ers, ranked ninth, have won the regular-season conference championship the last three seasons. The Big West postseason tournament will be March 8-11 at the Long Beach Arena.

Long Beach is led by guards Penny Toler, averaging 20.5 points, and Traci Waites, averaging 16.2. Forward Shameil Coleman is the only other 49er in double figures at 12.2 points per game.

Toler had 25 points on Jan. 30, when Long Beach won at Las Vegas, 85-81.

Las Vegas is coming off a 78-73 victory Saturday night over Cal State Fullerton. Pauline Jordan had 20 points and her twin sister, Geannine, had 17 in the game.
