Local News in Brief : County Employees to Get ‘Wanted’ List

Share

Noting the success of television shows such as “America’s Most Wanted,” Los Angeles County officials announced Tuesday that photographs and descriptions of wanted criminals will be circulated among county employees.

The county’s 75,000 employees will receive the new Crime Alert Bulletin every other month as part of the County Digest, the official publication for county employees, Supervisors Ed Edelman and Mike Antonovich said.

Since August, the city of Los Angeles has been mailing similar bulletins to its 38,000 employees. The program was initiated by City Controller Rick Tuttle, who acknowledged he borrowed the idea from “America’s Most Wanted,” the weekly Fox Television series.

Police Lt. Barbara Guarino said the city program has generated several leads from employees and other members of the public.

The first arrest stemming from the program occurred recently when authorities located Abdulmalik Abdullahi Kurtu, a former parking lot attendant at Los Angeles International Airport who was wanted for embezzling receipts.
