All eight people aboard an Air Force C-141 cargo jet that crashed into a remote swamp on Eglin Air Force Base were presumed to have died, military officials said. About 100 rescuers working in heavy rain built a makeshift road and prepared to install a 100-foot bridge to reach the plane that crashed Monday night. Those believed to have perished in the crash were identified as Capt. Mark J. Chambers, 30; Capt. John F. Young, 30; Master Sgt. Robert E. Wright Jr., 37; Tech. Sgt. Ronald D. Grubbs, 29; Staff Sgt. Karl M. Kohler, 32; Airman 1st Class Scott D. Craig, 22, and Staff Sgt. John W. Remerscheid, 33. All were from Norton Air Force Base in Southern California. Retired Air Force Capt. John Galvin of Jacksonville, Fla., who flew on a space-available basis, was identified as the eighth victim.
