Race-Motivated Violence
The Japanese American Bar Assn. agrees with Kwoh that debate over gun control legislation should not be used as a palliative distraction from the painful issues of race-motivated violence. We share in the grief of the parents of the Asian American children who were killed and wounded. We urge the authorities in Stockton to continue their investigation of the incident to try to determine whether or not it was motivated by race hatred.
Our Board of Governors, representing nearly 400 member attorneys and judges of all political persuasions, voted unanimously to endorse SB 292, introduced by Sen. David Roberti (D-Los Angeles) which would prohibit the sale of military assault weapons.
