The Metropolitan Opera will present five new productions and three more complete cycles of Wagner’s “Ring des Nibelungen” during its 32-week 1989-90 season. The new works are Verdi’s “La Traviata” (designed by Franco Zeffirelli) and “Rigoletto” (with Luciano Pavarotti and June Anderson in her Met debut) and Wagner’s “Der Fliegende Hollander.”
