Pittsburgh’s Mario Lemieux and Detroit’s Steve Yzerman, the NHL’s first- and third-leading scorers, showcased their individual talents Thursday night at Detroit. Call it a draw.

Lemieux assisted on five goals as the Penguins built a 6-0 lead, and Yzerman answered with two goals and a pair of assists as the Red Wings rallied for a 6-6 tie.

“It was embarrassing,” Yzerman said of the early deficit. “We were getting blown out in our own arena. We had to do something.”

The Red Wings’ frantic comeback included four second-period goals and two in the third, capped by Yzerman’s tying goal with five minutes left in regulation time.

Lee Norwood’s power-play goal early in the final period trimmed Pittsburgh’s lead to 6-5.

Hartford 4, Quebec 2--Dave Tippett and Tom Martin scored 33 seconds apart late in the first period to lead the Whalers over the Nordiques at Hartford, Conn.

Defenseman Dave Babych added a power-play goal, and Ray Ferraro scored his 30th of the season into an empty net in the final minute.

Vancouver 2, Toronto 1--Jim Sandlack scored his 16th goal with 18 seconds left in overtime to give the Canucks the victory at Vancouver, Canada. It was the Canucks’ seventh straight win.

Daryl Stanley’s third-period goal tied it for Vancouver.
