BUNDY VS. KISSINGER

Share

Regarding Prof. Ernest May’s review of McGeorge Bundy’s book, “Danger and Survival” (Book Review, Dec. 18). May compares this book to Thucydides’ history of the Peloponnesian Wars.

One realizes that mutual self-congratulation is compulsory among certain “circles” of the foreign policy establishment. But Bundy similar to Thucydides? That goes a bit far. Also, why does May not dwell a bit on Bundy’s disastrous sponsorship of American involvement in Vietnam and the self-righteous stubbornness he displayed in persisting in this foolish judgment?

Henry Kissinger, at whom Bundy takes so many cracks, by the way, is head and shoulders above the conventional East Coast establishment on foreign policy issues, whatever errors he may have made.
