A Northridge man was in serious condition Saturday night after he was shot by a Los Angeles police officer when he tried repeatedly to hit the officer with a pipe, police said.
Acir Vitorio, 38, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center after he was shot in the left buttock.
Vitorio was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon, Lt. William Hall said.
The incident began at 1:15 p.m. when Officer Jeffrey Carter arrived at an apartment in the 8100 block of Reseda Boulevard following a domestic violence complaint.
Guy Lokar, 27, complained that his roommate, Vitorio, had tried to strangle him, Hall said.
When Carter went outside to get some paper work, Vitorio appeared and knocked him to the ground, police said. When the officer chased him, Vitorio disappeared, then returned with a pipe and hit Carter in the shoulder, they added.
Carter fired two shots after Vitorio ignored his command to drop the pipe and tried to strike the officer again, police said.
