Local News in Brief : R&B; Singer Al Sure Is Arrested in Rape

Noted rhythm and blues singer Al B. Sure has been arrested in the rape of a woman in West Hollywood, authorities said Monday.
Sure, 21, was arrested Saturday morning by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at the Mondrian Hotel on Sunset Boulevard and booked on suspicion of rape, said Deputy Pat Hunter. Sure, whose real name is Albert Brown, posted $15,000 bail and was released Saturday afternoon.
The alleged victim was a woman Sure was dating, Hunter said.
Sure, a native of Boston, was nominated for a Grammy this year as best male rhythm and blues vocalist. His album “In Effect Mode” sold 1 million copies last year and his first single, “Nite and Day,” made the top 10 on the pop chart.
