Texas San Antonio Coach Seeks Titans’ Job
Cal State Fullerton interviewed Texas San Antonio Coach Ken Burmeister for the Titan basketball coaching job this weekend, sources said Monday.
Fullerton interviewed UCLA assistant Paul Landreaux Monday and plans to interview acting coach John Sneed before the Big West Conference tournament begins March 8. There are no plans yet to interview others before naming a coach within the next few weeks, sources said.
Burmeister, 40, formerly an assistant under Lute Olson at Arizona and Iowa, led Texas San Antonio to the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. tournament last season in his second year at the school.
Burmeister’s Roadrunners, who play in the Trans America Athletic Conference, were 35-24 in his first two seasons, including 22-9 last season with a loss to Illinois in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The Roadrunners are 15-10 this season.
Burmeister is the only Division I head coach known to be a candidate other than Sneed, the front-runner for the job.
