College Baseball Roundup : Willis Leads California Past Titans
Travis Willis pitched a seven-hitter and had a career-high 11 strikeouts to lead California to a 6-4 victory over Cal State Fullerton in a nonconference baseball game Saturday at Fullerton.
Kevin Brown had three hits and two RBIs for California (17-3), which scored three runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
Dave Staton had two hits and two RBIs for Fullerton (10-5). Rex Peters had a fifth-inning single to extend his hitting streak to 15 games for Fullerton.
The teams conclude the two-games series at Fullerton today with a 1 p.m. game.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball:
Chapman 9, Cal State Dominguez Hills 1--Jason Rolish had two hits and two RBIs and Rod Turner had two hits for host Chapman (9-10, 3-1).
Tony Gardea, Chris Cutliff, Jody Garcia and Ken Briggs had a hit a two RBIs each. Jeff Petredes pitched seven innings for the victory.
Pepperdine 8, UC Irvine 1--Stacy Parker and Jim Koehler had doubles in the fourth for visiting UC Irvine’s only run. Irvine is 6-11-1.
Southern California College 5-2, UC San Diego 4-7--Jim Dedrick (1-0) struck out eight in 6 2/3 innings for Southern California College (8-7) in the opener. SCC’s Kevin Kasper hit a solo home run in the second game.
