Colleges : UC Irvine Rolls in Baseball, 22-3

UC Irvine’s baseball team ended its three-game losing streak in a big way Wednesday, routing Cal State Dominguez Hills, 22-3, in a nonconference game at Irvine.
It was the most runs by an Irvine team since April 10, 1985, when the Anteaters defeated U.S. International, 23-3.
Brian Young led a 24-hit attack with four hits, including a double and triple. He also had four RBIs.
Chris Gallego and Freddie Combs each had three hits for the Anteaters (7-12).
Ken Whitworth pitched seven innings, allowing only three hits and an unearned run, for the victory. He struck out five.
In Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. play:
UCLA 3, UC Irvine 0--Brian Boone had nine kills as UCLA (16-2, 11-1) swept, 15-1, 15-4, 15-13, at Irvine. Steve Florentine had 11 kills for the Anteaters (5-17, 0-11).
