An El Cajon man was convicted of second-degree murder Thursday in the slaying of a man whose mutilated body was recovered near Pine Valley.

Douglas Ingham, 23, was convicted of stabbing the victim in the base of the skull in March, 1987. Scott Lee Hill, 27, of San Diego, also had his throat slashed. Another defendant, Lawrence Morris, 29, of San Diego, was convicted of first-degree murder in March, 1988. Ingham could be sentenced to 16 years to life April 6 by Superior Court Judge Terry B. O’Rourke.

The motive for the slaying was revenge after Hill purportedly tried to rape Morris’ wife while Morris was at sea with the Navy. Witnesses at the trial said they heard Morris talking openly with Ingham in a bar about killing Hill.
