Homer in Seventh Carries Castle Park

Joe Carrillo hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to give the Castle Park High baseball team a 4-1 victory over Orange Glen in a Madison Warhawk tournament game Friday.

The Trojans had tied the game, 1-1, earlier in the inning when Chris Morris singled in Juan Beltran. Morris and David Cabral, who reached on a double, scored on Carrillo’s homer.

Orange Glen had broken a scoreless tie in the last half of the sixth when Steve Duenas scored on Shannon Vinje’s sacrifice fly. Beltran went the distance, allowed five hits for the victory.

In other Madison Warhawk tournament games:

Bonita Vista 3, Kearny 2--Bonita Vista scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh without a base hit.

Craig Catlin and Matt Gibbs walked to open the inning and were pushed over to third and second when John Solomon grounded out. Casey June then drew the third walk of the inning to load the bases for Mike Wazal.

Wazal hit a sharp grounder to short. The play went to second, but the second baseman dropped the ball and Catlin came in from third.

Dominic Dirksen was three for four with an RBI and scored a run for Kearny (1-3).

Madison 9, Mar Vista 3--Buzz Brown homered and tripled to drive in three runs for the visiting Warhawks. Matt Dobbs added two singles and two RBIs.

Sweetwater 9, Mount Miguel 3--Isaac Bruce hit a three-run homer in the third inning to lead Sweetwater.

Fallbrook 9, Rancho Buena Vista 6--Fallbrook scored six runs in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie.

The Warriors were led by Wade Pearson, who went four for four with a double and two RBIs, and Erik Larsen, three for three with two stolen bases and two RBIs.

San Pasqual 4, Temecula Valley 1--Tim Young (1-0) and Kevin Herde combined for a five-hitter, and the Eagles (2-0) were flawless in the field in defeating Temecula Valley (0-4) at San Pasqual. The Eagles’ Mike Escarcega was two for two with an RBI, Eric Marsh two for three. Tony Medina hit a bases-empty home run in the second inning.

Torrey Pines 10, El Camino 2--Sophomore pitcher Brian Hochleutner struck out five and walked only two for the victory in his first high school start.

Hochleutner also hit a two-run single in the second.
