Driver Kills Boy in Alley

A 7-year-old boy died after he was struck by a speeding hit-and-run driver Saturday in an alley off Jeffrey Drive in an apartment complex near the Disneyland Hotel, Anaheim police said.

Police were searching late Saturday for a cream-colored sedan with a damaged left front fender. Witnesses told police the driver never stopped after the accident.

Hit Garage Doors

The car entered the alley near the 1600 block of Jeffrey Drive at a high rate of speed and hit several garage doors before striking Victor Martinez Magana of Anaheim. Magana was taken to Western Medical Center-Anaheim where he died an hour later of massive head and chest injuries, police said.

Police were not sure what the boy was doing in the alley.

Officers said witnesses saw the car but none of them saw the vehicle strike the child. Officials were not sure where the boy was standing when he was hit.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Fred Roush said the child lived in the area of the accident.

Several hours earlier, Anaheim police reported that a father accidently ran over his 2-year-old child in the area of Bywood Avenue. The child was rushed to Anaheim Memorial Hospital.

A hospital spokesperson reported Saturday night that the child was in stable condition with foot injuries.

Details of the accident and the names of the child and father were not available, police said.
