Local News in Brief : Countywide : New Holiday Parade Officials Announced

Officials of the sixth annual Times-Orange County Holiday Parade have announced the election of the Christmas season attraction’s new board of directors and officers.

Serving as board chairman will be James P. Reichert, general manager of the Orange County Transit District. Rueben Martinez, a Santa Ana businessman, will serve as chairman-elect and Santa Ana City Manager David Ream will serve as treasurer. Michael Metzler, who is president of the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce, will serve as secretary to the board.

The parade chairman will be Douglas Rochelle of Kerr Glass Co. Nancy L. Viking was named president for 1989 and Robert E. Viking vice president.

Joining the group’s board of directors will be John Ben, president of Aqua Ben Corp.; William R. Hamilton, president of The Cannery Restaurant; Thomas H. Nielsen, vice chairman of the Irvine Co., and Marty Potts, project manager for Hopkins Development Co.

Also serving on the board are Ted Segerstrom, property manager for C.J. Segerstrom & Sons; Frank Spevacek, Rosenow, Spevacek Group Inc., and Marty Wikstrom, Orange County regional manager for Nordstrom Stores Inc.

The annual parade, scheduled this year for Dec. 2 at 10 a.m. in Santa Ana, is sponsored by The Times Orange County Edition and other Southland corporations and community organizations.

The event has the largest single-day attendence of any Orange County event, according to organizers.

The 90-minute parade also features the Southern California High School Marching Band Grand Championship and 4-story, helium-filled balloons. Celebrity guests, floats, marching bands, performing groups and equestrian units are also scheduled for this year’s event, officials said.
