Local News in Brief : Hawthorne Names New Police Chief
Capt. Stephen R. Port, a 14 1/2-year veteran, has been selected to become chief of the Hawthorne Police Department, succeeding Kenneth R. Stonebraker, who will retire in July.
Port, 47, was chosen Monday night by the City Council on the recommendation of City Manager R. Kenneth Jue. He will be paid $82,380 a year.
The department has 85 sworn officers and a total of 120 employees.
