Local News in Brief : 2 Killed, 1 Injured in Thousand Oaks Crash
Two people were killed early Saturday, but another was unhurt when the car in which they were riding broke apart after hitting a light post at a speed witnesses said exceeded 100 m.p.h., a Ventura County Sheriff’s Department sergeant said.
Matt Tupin, 20, of Simi Valley was in the back seat of the vehicle and suffered minor cuts and scratches, according to a nursing supervisor at Westlake Community Hospital in Westlake Village. He was in good condition but hospitalized under observation Saturday.
Sgt. Kevin Mauch said the 1967 Mustang driven by Mike Holcomb, 20, of Moorpark was traveling west on Thousand Oaks Boulevard about 1:55 a.m. when it skidded sideways on a slight curve near Middlecrest Drive.
Mauch said the car traveled down the roadway sideways for 300 feet before the driver’s side door struck a concrete light post. The impact broke the car in half, sending the engine and front end skidding another 140 feet before coming to rest at the base of another light post.
Mauch said Michelle Sinclair, 18, of Thousand Oaks was thrown from the vehicle. Both Holcomb and Sinclair died at the scene.
Tupin told deputies that the three had been at a party earlier in the evening.
